The Black Boy is worth a visit not just for good value home-cooked food but also for its weird and wonderful collections (ladies, check out the toilet!).  Off the traditional tourist trail, its a traditional pub with bags of charm, earning a place in The Good Pub Guide.  The Black Boy has a particularly good reputation for its evening meals but at lunch times the menu is more limited.

There are 2 pubs on this walk so you could start with lunch at the Black Boy and finish with dinner at the Wykeham Arms.  There is also a lovely cafe/restaurant at the cathedral refectory for afternoon tea.

As this route features a choice of pubs, the same route is listed under each pub named below.  When adding a review please go to the entry for the pub that you visited and "write a review" there.

OS MAPS really enhance enjoyment of pub walks and taking one with you is highly recommended. The 1:25,000 laminated Winchester (OS Explorer Map Active) version is our preferred choice for regular walkers but the standard paper 1:25,000 covering Winchester (Explorer Maps) is also suitable.
