The
Alternative Isle
of Wight Pub
Walking Festival !
We have come
up with another first for those who love to combine their walking with the pleasures
of good food, real ale and the convivial atmosphere of a favourite pub.
The Isle of Wight already hosts the UK's largest walking festival but for the
first time this year we will have our own alternative Isle of Wight Pub
Walking Festival, also running from 3rd to 18th May 2008. This
aims to celebrate the fantastic pub walks boasted by the island and raise the
profile of some of its best pubs for good food, real ale and friendly service.
This means you can download for free all our Isle
of Wight Pub Walks from now until the Pub Walking Festival ends. What's
more, we have timed this to coincide with not only the Isle of Wight Walking
Festival but also the Isle of Wight Real Ale Festival so, for those who love
pub walks, there really is no better time for an island break. So if you fancy
joining the festivities this year, here is our checklist for planning your trip:
Important
- Book your Isle of Wight ferry today or your plans could
be sunk!
1
Check ferry availability at Cheap4Ferries.com
which covers all routes to the island. For last minute bookings, remember
the island is small enough that even your second choice need not involve
a significant detour!
2
Decide on your accommodation.
We have included some useful links below for cottages (our favourite option)
and hotels to help you.
3
An OS map really is a must. The Isle
of Wight (OS Explorer Map Series)
is ideal but regular visitors may prefer the more durable laminated Isle
of Wight (OS Explorer Map Active) although it is a little bulkier.

Take a look at our free
pub walks and download as many as you like ready to take with
you. Remember we will keep adding more until 18th May so do check us out
regularly.

So
what is so special about the
Isle of Wight ?
Over
half of the island is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty.
500
miles of well-maintained and signposted footpaths.
30 miles of dramatic Heritage Coastline with 64 miles of coastal footpaths.
Numerous
pubs of all kinds to choose from.
Excellent
public
transport enables you to get maximum enjoyment from your just rewards
at your chosen pubs.
Plenty
of other things to do too - the island is famous for its prehistoric
legacy, water sports, and historic properties like Osbourne House and
Carisbrooke Castle.
Family
attractions are also plentiful with Dinosaur Farm, Black Gang Chine
fantasy park and excellent beaches.

Accommodation Links - As a popular
tourist destination, the Isle of Wight has many types of accommodation
to offer but of course the three festivals and the bank holiday will mean
many of these get booked up early. If you want some help finding somewhere
then these links will hopefully help you:
Cottages
- These are always my favourite and there are plenty to choose from.
To see their selection of Isle of Wight properties, click straight through
to Welcome
Cottages, English
Country Cottages, Country
Holidays or Hoseasons
Cottages.
Hotels
- Try Booking.com
which covers 27 hotels on the island, Hotels.com
or Laterooms.com.
Holiday
Parks - If you have to balance your passion for pub walks with
other family activities then Park
Resorts has 4 holiday parks to choose from on the island and Hoseasons
Parks has another.
Luxury
- For those fancying a little more pampering after their pub walks,
then the adults-only luxury hotels offered by Warner
Breaks are worth checking out.
Travelodge
- And then you always have the Travelodge
option.
